Between the 16th and 17th of May 2014, the Faculty of Journalism and Communication (University of Bucharest), along with the Trainers Association of Journalism and Communication will organize the international conference “Understanding transition – II. Communication and public interest”.

The conference will be held in English and French.

The call for papers is open to works that investigate the following areas:

  • Public interest and the interest of the public – are we just playing with words?
  • Communication professionals under political and economic pressure
  • Standards in commercial communication: defend public interest or own reputation?
  • Teaching communications for an uncertain future
  • Whistle-blowing, wikileaks and national security issues
  • Private life and public scrutiny
  • Minority rights defenders – a new type of modern heroes?
  • Media in public campaigns – defending whose interests?
  • Special interest media (religious media, party press) – the public interest  and the interests of special publics
  • Communication industries and the public interest – a contradiction in economic terms?

The deadline for submitting abstracts (700-1000 words) is March 1st, 2014. The abstracts may be sent via e-mail to raluca.radu @ fjsc.ro. On March 31st, 2014 the final selection of the abstracts will be announced. Papers must be sent by May 15th, 2014.
